By the sacred anointing of the sick and the prayer of the priests the whole church commends those who are ill to the suffering and glorified Lord, that he may raise them up and save them. And indeed she exhorts them to contribute to the good of the People of God by freely uniting themselves to the Passion and death of Christ. Catechism of the Catholic Church
It is recommended that if you are going into hospital (especially for an operation of any kind), that you receive the sacrament before going into hospital. It is important during admission that you clearly inform the hospital that you are a Catholic and that, should you require the services of a priest, this information is readily available to nursing staff.
Each year the parish celebrates Novena in honour of St. Peregrine which is concluded with a Mass for the Anointing of the Sick. This public celebration of the sacrament regularly draws large numbers from beyonf the parish. At any other time, if you wish to receive this sacrament, either in church or at home, please contact the parish priest.
